Our Little Secret. This book turned me into one emotional wreck because of the content not the author's writing style.
The book is an autobiography of the author who I think was brave to pen down his crazy experiences during his younger lives. The memoir talks about him being abused physically and mentally by his father and a lot of other things but mainly the abuse.
At a very young age, four to be exact, he was first molested then eventually when he got older, got raped countless times on various occasions by his pedo father who later told him that it was all a father and son thing. Saying that everyone does it and it's a normal thing but people just do not talk about it. Also to cover up the abuse, his father showered him with expensive gifts and stuff.
Things got messy in his head when in school his friends mentioned that gays suck each other cocks and fuck one another (I'm somewhat just quoting the author's language. I know.. it's kind of vile). He was there thinking that he's been performing that acts to his father since forever but was still in denial. Believing that what his father did was a different kind of thing. Believing that there's somehow a silver lining between what gays people do and what his father did to him.
Due to all these and some bad judgment of choosing friends, he drove into substance abuse. Drugs provided him the temporary relief from the pain he failed to obtain from the people whom he loved most.
He became wilder over the years and finally at 16, he moved out of the house. Things didn't really get better for him initially because of his addiction to substances but love kind of made him kick that morbid habit once and for all. (Urgh.. So cliche-ed).
He later turned to education and landed himself to a University. He became a teacher and has been teaching ever since.
Later in his life, he met his bloody father on the streets who was gripping the hand of a little boy. Whatever he saw at that moment made him realised and braved himself to report his father to the police.
What I like about this book is the bravery of the author to bare his shameful past experience to the world. Read it if you think you think yourself require a drop of demureness, inspiration and pugnacity.
